Bhavina Patel has became the first Indian to enter the final of a table tennis event in the Paralympics with a hard-fought 3-2 after winning over China’s Miao Zhang in a class 4 semifinal here on August 28. Patel beat her world no. 3 Chinese opponent 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, and 11-8 in the semifinal.

The 34-year-old Bhavina continued to suffer setbacks. The 34-year-old ESIC employee based at Ahmedabad earlier had qualified for the Rio 2016 Paralympics but could not play because of a technicality. She was India’s best hope in para TT(Table Tennis) at the 2010 Commonwealth Games but lost in the quarterfinals. But Bhavina maintained her practice and continued to try harder, and harder.

Who is Bhavina Patel | Bhavina Patel Life Story

The full name of Bhavina is Bhavina Hasmukhbhai Patel and she is from Vadnagar, Gujarat. She was born on 6 November, 1986 in Sundhiya village of Vadnagar District. Her father’s name name is Hasmukh Bhai Patel. The financial condition of Bhavina’s family was not good. Her father run a small shop to look after the whole family.

At the age of just 12 moth her family came to know that Bhavina was suffering from a disability called Poliomyelitis. Due to Paralysis she was not able to walk. Her family spent a lot of money for her treatment. But she was not able to walk properly adn had to take the support of crutches. Later she became used to of a wheelchair as she was not able to walk.

Bhavina studied in regular schoola in Sundhiya Village. Her family members were worried about her but she wrote her destiny in golden words. Bhavina Patel was thinking to become a teacher, but her this dream ws broken as she was rejected in an interview because of this disability. Later her fathe Hansmukh Bhai Patel sa an advertisement in for Blind People’s Association (BPA). Soon her adimiteed Bhavina at the institute.

Although, Bhavina had some regualr courses like computer etc. but she was introduced to table tennins. She was introduced to coach Lalah Doshi and she soon she transfoormed into a table tennis player. Going to the institute was life changing for her. This journey of table tennis has taken her to the Tokyo Paralympics and a great place in Indian Sports History.

Bhavina’s Achievements

Bhavina Patel has won a number of Gold and Silver medals in may national and international competitions. Bhavina reached to world ranking number 2, by winning Silver Medal for India in the Individual category at Thailand, 2011. She also won silver medal at Asian Para table tennis championships in Beijing, 2013. Bhavina also won bronze medal in Internation Table Tennis Federation Asian Para Table Tennis Championship at Beijing, 2017
